Ricordiamoci dell'11 settembre, Giuseppe Conte
The intelligent reader when reads the title understands that the poet wants to emphasize the horror caused by the tragedy of Semptember 11th. Indeed reading the words "11th September" the reader immediately associates the poem theme to the World Trade Centre attack, happened in 2001, the date of composition of the text.
The imperative verb "remember" taken for granted that it is not in remembering more.
He want to know why it must be remembered.
The poem is divided into two parts: the first of the first ten lines, the second of the last five lines; but from graphical point of view, the poem is not divided into sequences. The poem is made up by two repetitions of the title, each making up a sequence.
This choice has the function to put the reader's attention to the importance to remember the attack. In this way, the poet wants that it doesn't happen again.
In the first section there is metrical regularity; in the following lines the uniformity is divided, the hendecasyllable is confused in the chaos. This indicates the chaos of the tragedy. The theme of first section is the fear caused by the attack.
This theme is also emphasized by the repetition of sounds r, o and u that emphasize the horror of what happened.
In the first lines the poet invites the reader to not forget, to remember the image of the two towers falling and the following cloud of smoke emphasizing the effect of the massacre.
In the 4th line the expression "di sangue e di materia celebrale" describes the gray cloud of material that is created after the attack. The image is also reinforced by the only rhyme of the verse “celebrale-mortale”.
In 7th line the speaking voice uses a metaphor of Hades because America became the same place “fumo d'odio e di buio”.
Giuseppe Conte wants to underline the horror of the massacre and the absurdity of those religious causes.
The second section of the poem constitutes the exposition of the writer’s will as regards the remembering of the attack.
In the line 11 the poet invites the reader to pray; this means that religion principles should not become a cause to justify the horrors. This is a multicultural aspects, religion should unite, not divide. However, the reader can notice an opposition between two different types of gods because the word Dio is repeated. In the first time it indicates the God that the speaking voice wants the reader to prey and in the second part it indicates the God's interpretation of whose the word "Inferi" creates in the first section of the poem.
The noun bambino, at the end of the last line, underlines again the need for peace and innocence that the narrator wants to convey with the composition.
In the last two lines there is the rhyme between “assassino-bambino”. It follows that Giuseppe Conte tries to hold the massacre in a traditional syntactic form.
The poem ends with a note of hope: the word "bambino".
In my opinion the messages of this poem are two: the poet recommends to not forget about the horrors of 11th September and he remembers that in any God we believe ,no God justifies violence.
