Desiderio di pace, Mario Luzi
Analysing the title the reader understands that the poem has an aspect of hope. Mario Luzi wants to emphasize a desire for peace among peoples of different races and different religions.
The poem is composed in a singular stanza counting twelve lines. The intelligent reader can be divided the poem into parts thanks to different themes contained. Indeed the poem is composed by three different sections: the first going form the first line to the fifth line; the second counting the next five lines and the third counting the last two lines.
The first sequence allows the reader to understand the point of view of the poet. Indeed the poet considers the Twin Towers attack something destructive (morte) e blasphemous (affronto).
The first lines he emphasizes the union of the people in front of death and suffering. The writer lists the various religions to highlight the multicultural aspect.
In the second part the reader can find the theme of religion thanks to the words like “fasti” (v.7),”risorgete”(v.8), “preghiera” (v.10), “desiderio” (v.11), “pace” (v.12), which resend to the deeper symbolism of the word “gigli” (v.10) in the Christian meaning.
The word "gigli" is a keyword because it recalls purity, innocence and chastity, as an invite for the towers to be rebuilt as an innocent building.
In the 6th line with the word “vi” the poet refers to the Twin Towers. It is as if the voice of the poem is addressed to Twin Towers.
In the last part of the poem the reader understands poem's final intention: have only peace in the world, to see the various cultures united by a sentiment of peace, in spite of the World Trade Centre.
In my opinion the poem conveyes a message of real pace between different cultures and religions. It doesen't matter what kind of religion the victims of attack believe in, they are equally victims.
