OPTION A

In the present work I am going to discuss the quotation about Mohsin Hamid’s novel structure.
First of all the novel “The Reluctant Fundamentalist” was written in 2007.
The novelist uses a particular technique. Indeed the text is a narrative text. The novel is presented in the form of one man’s monologue. The monologue is reported in indirect way. It takes the form of a dramatic monologue. In it a single speaker addresses another person. The use of the monologue forces the reader to be an active part of the iusses. The novel begins with “Excuse me, sir, but may I be of assistance?”. It is almost as if the novelist were addressing the reader but of course it is one character speaking to another. The protagonist is the only voice the reader hears however the conversation is between two people. Changez is narrating his life to a stranger, when the two men meet at a café in the Old Anarkali district. He is stalking to an American man but he seems to be speaking directly to us: indeed it is a long uninterrupted speech directly addressing the reader as well the novel is written in the first person. This means the story is told from the protagonist’s point of view that is Pakistan/Muslim one and the reader knows only the point of view of the narrator. It follows it is narrator’s way to silence the American point of view, so that the point of view of the story is restricted. Hamid uses this technique because he wants the reader to look at things from a different prospective from the usual point of view.
The novel is organized into 12 chapters. They have a different function in the novel however every chapter has got a basic theme. For example the first part has the function to introduce the American life of Changez and his change during his stay in USA.
