Pakistan and American are similar for some aspects - Changez arrives in New York and he feels at home. So coming to New York was a bit like coming home for Changez (many speakers of Urdu, driving cabs and running cafes)
He is a New Yorker, not an American (America is a different place from the big city) - Changez loves his job at Underwood Samson.
It seems to be in an another world (powerful, rich, privileged)
He begins to have an American lifestyle - Changez recognizes that Pakistan was once at the forefront of modernity but he feels a sense of shame and resentment
He feels disparity between Pakistan and America - He begins to work at Underwood Samson (meritocracy)
