SMilan - Foe. An Unusual Title
[author: Sara Milan - postdate: 2007-10-11]

Text: Foe
Task: critical thinking and anticipation.

Intertextual:
Linguistic:

Reading the title the intelligent reader immediately understands that it is rather unusual-

Trying to translate the word Foe we can see that there is not a stable meaning but it turns out different according to context.

It uses language that is not ordinarily used. The meaning of the word "foe"is  enemy.

Foe can also be understood  by the reader as the short form for  Defoe, the writer of Robinson Crusoe, thus reminding of  another text. The title is short and it is significant because it fixes immediately into one's  mind. Another important aspect is that it is unusual and that is why it attracts people: the reader is invited to come up with a possible meaning.
